Fly Day at Jason's Flight School

Today was Fly Day 2011 at Jason's Flight School, Summit Aviation. We took Katie to the school to see the planes and they were giving free plane rides to kids. Katie went flying in a plane similar to the one Jason flies all the time. She went up with a pilot named Randall who is one of Jason's instructors. She had a GREAT time and said it was totally cool to fly in an airplane. We got to sit in an airplane and see other old aircraft. It was very fun.

The hanger to the school where the airplanes are kept.....

A cool old airplane

A tradition of the flight school is that once a pilot flies his/her first solo flight they cut off a sleeve of the shirt they are wearing, write the date on it, and hang it on the sleeve wall in the school.

Jason's sleeve for when he did his first solo flight Feb. 14, 2011.

Katie and Randall heading out to the airplane for her ride.....

If you look closely you can see little Katie in the airplane....

After her ride she was all smiles....

They gave her a certificate of flight.

We sat in one of the planes Jason flies. A tight fit....

Jason gave us a tutorial on all the dials in the airplane and what they do. I have to say he was in his element.....

After Fly Day we went to Billings to shop the rest of the day away. This was the beginning of the sunset on the way home.....notice snow still on the mountains.

The end of the sunset....awesome!

The New Hamster Saga

In her class a couple of weeks ago Katie had the assignment to write a persuasive letter to someone. She decided to write a letter to her dad trying to persuade him to get her a new hamster since our hamster Buddy passed away about six months ago. It was a pretty convincing letter and so we got a new hamster (but not without some drama). Our new little hamster, Sergeant Peanut (Katie chose the name....we looked up names on google and that is what she chose) is a sweet hamster. But he was hamster number 2 in our search for our new pet. The first hamster named Squeak (Katie named him that because of a squeaky noise he made) was mean and would bite if you got close to him. He drew blood on Jason more than once. Of course, Katie and I didn't want to hold him because of the threat of pain. So....Squeak went back to Petsmart and we got Serg. instead!

Our nice hamster Sergeant Peanut......

Bonus points if you can tell me what show I have paused on the TV in the background. :)

Our not so nice hamster, Squeak (notice he is not being held for the picture)......
